The Math Behind It

The basic formula used by this calculator is:

Potassium (mg) = serving weight (g) × potassium per 100 g ÷ 100

If your serving is in ounces, the tool first multiplies by 28.35 to get grams. If it is in cups, it uses 226 g per cup, which is the approximate weight of cottage cheese from USDA food composition data. Then it applies the potassium value chosen for the cottage cheese type or the custom label value you entered.

The percentage of your daily target is simply the potassium in your serving divided by your daily target, multiplied by 100.
